Energy and Environmental Technologies

picture of treesTVA’s Environmental Technologies organization addresses complex environmental issues associated with energy production by developing and applying environmental technologies, conducting research on emerging environmental issues, and providing compliance support to TVA operating organizations.

We work closely with other TVA organizations, other federal and state agencies, and private institutions. Our projects require expertise in many different areas, such as constructed wetlands technology for water and wastewater treatment, biofilter engineering and development, utilization of coal-combustion by-products, aircraft field studies of atmospheric chemistry, carbon sequestration, animal-waste utilization, and pollutant sensor development. Externally funded projects are often carried out through partnerships formed among multiple organizations.

The following energy and environmental technologies are available from TVA:

  • Constructed wetlands (ReCip®)
  • Bioreactors (B-Tec®)
  • Mercury monitoring and control
  • Hot-gas decontamination.
