Blue Ridge Mountain Electric Membership Corporation Proposed Substation
Chatuge Reservoir, Towns County, Georgia
On April 15, 2009, TVA issued a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) and a supplement to the final environmental assessment (FEA) issued March 11, 2009. The supplemental environmental assessment (SEA) provides additional information about one of the potential substation sites suggested by the Towns County Homeowners Association. The new FONSI and SEA are available below in the Documents section.
On March 11, 2009, TVA issued a FONSI and released a FEA that relates to a request by Blue Ridge Mountain Electric Membership Corporation (BRMEMC) for TVA fee property and a permanent easement located within TVA Tract XCHR-12R (also known as Parcel 52) on Chatuge Reservoir in Towns County, Georgia.
In this FEA, TVA examines the potential impacts of selling at public auction approximately 1.4 acres of property, of granting the successful bidder a permanent easement and approval of a Section 26a permit, and of the resulting construction and operation of the substation and new transmission line.
TVA held an open house on Thursday, November 13, 2008, to receive comments on the BRMEMC request. In addition, TVA received comments on a draft environmental assessment (DEA) through November 24 by mail, phone, fax, and an online comment form via its Web site. Comments received on the DEA have been incorporated into the FEA.
The FEA and FONSI are presented below.
