Kingston Fossil Plant – Proposed Gypsum Dewatering System
Roane County, Tennessee
In July 2009, the TVA Board of Directors passed a resolution to review and address the systems, controls, and standards related to coal combustion products (CCPs), e.g., fly ash, bottom ash, and gypsum, which resulted from the burning of coal to produce electricity. TVA has subsequently reviewed its practices for handling and storing CCPs at its generating facilities, including its coal-fired Kingston Fossil Plant (KIF). The current proposal to construct a gypsum dewatering system at KIF is an outcome of that review, which supplements a 2006 environmental assessment presented below.
On December 3, 2010, TVA completed its final supplemental environmental assessment (SEA) and issued a finding of no significant impact on the proposal to install and operate a mechanical gypsum dewatering system at KIF. Both documents may be viewed online by accessing the links below.
A draft of the SEA was released for public comment in August 2010. The final SEA incorporates responses to the comments received on the draft.
