Hillsboro 161-KV Transmission Line

Coffee County, Tennessee

On December 17, 2012, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) issued an environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for its proposal to construct and operate a 161-kilovolt (kV) transmission line in Coffee County, Tennessee. This new transmission line would supply electric power to the new Hillsboro 161-kV Substation, which is being constructed by Duck River Electric Membership Cooperative (DREMC), a local distributor of TVA power. DREMC plans to construct the new substation southeast of Manchester and adjacent to TVA’s Hillsboro 46-kV Substation. The new transmission line would connect the planned DREMC substation to TVA’s existing McMinnville-Morrison-Manchester to Red Hill 161-kV Transmission Line.

The transmission line would be built on 4.7 miles of 100-foot-wide right-of-way (ROW) and would occupy approximately 51 acres of new ROW and 7 acres of existing ROW. The proposal also includes installation of one switch structure and one permanent access road within the new ROW. After the new facilities are in service, TVA would retire their existing Hillsboro 46-kV Substation and approximately 1.8 miles of their existing Winchester-Hillsboro 46-kV Transmission Line. TVA would update displays at its control centers in Chattanooga to indicate the status of the new facilities.

Additional information on the project is available including background information, maps, and a project schedule.
