John Sevier Scrubber Addition
Hawkins County, Tennessee
TVA has prepared a draft environmental assessment (DEA) for a project to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions at John Sevier Fossil Plant (JSF) in Hawkins County, Tennessee. The project would install flue gas desulfurization equipment that employs dry scrubber technology. TVA needs to reduce systemwide SO2 emissions to meet requirements under the 1990 Clean Air Act amendments. Reductions at JSF would help TVA meet those requirements. This DEA, which is presented below, considers the impacts of the No Action Alternative and variations of the Action Alternative.
TVA solicited comments on the DEA through May 29, 2009. Comments were received and are being addressed. A final environmental assessment detailing TVA’s Preferred Alternative for this project will be posted at this site upon its completion.
