Montgomery-Oakwood Transmission Line
Montgomery County, Tennessee
On February 20, 2007, TVA issued a finding of no significant impact and final environmental assessment for TVA’s proposed Oakwood Switching Station and Montgomery-Oakwood Switching Station Transmission Line for public review. This assessment describes a new electrical switching station and a 13-mile 161-kV transmission line to be built by TVA near Clarksville, Tennessee. About 1.2 miles of the transmission line would be built on Fort Campbell. The U.S. Army was therefore a cooperating agency in the preparation of the environmental assessment and has also issued a finding of no significant impact for the project.
The proposed switching station and transmission line would improve the reliability of electrical service to western Montgomery County, the U. S. Army’s Fort Campbell, and the Dover area of Stewart County. A portion of the preferred route for the transmission line was previously considered, but not selected, for TVA’s Cumberland-Montgomery 500-kV transmission line.
TVA and the U.S. Army issued a draft environmental assessment for public review in December, 2006. Comments received on the draft were incorporated into the final environmental assessment.
