Solid Waste Management Unit 108 - Pond Creek Relocation

Colbert County, Alabama

On September 16, 2013, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) completed a final environmental assessment and issued a finding of no significant impact for the proposed Pond Creek relocation and slope stabilization for solid waste management unit (SWMU) 108.  The creek relocation and slope stabilization would take place on TVA’s Muscle Shoals Reservation.  Over the past 20 years, vegetation growth and erosion from Pond Creek have adversely affected the security and slope of SWMU 108.  In November 2012, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management issued TVA a Consent Order that obligates TVA to place a natural or artificial barrier around SWMU 108 and correct the bank erosion from Pond Creek.  The proposed action is TVA’s response to these obligations in the Consent Order.
