State Route 30 Improvements Near Decatur, Tennessee

Rhea County, Tennessee

On April 22, 2010, TVA issued a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for proposed improvements by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) associated with construction of 5.6 miles of roadway improvements to State Route (SR) 30 between the Tennessee River and west of downtown Decatur, Tennessee.  The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and TDOT prepared an environmental assessment (EA) of the proposed action, and TVA adopted the EA.

The improvements along approximately half of the 5.6-mile project would involve construction of SR 30 on a new alignment.  The remaining segment of existing SR 30 would be widened.  The proposed construction would consist of two 12-foot-wide lanes and two 12-foot shoulders within a minimum 150 feet of right-of-way.  The project requires a land use approval from TVA for a permanent easement over Chickamauga Reservoir Reservation property.  The work within the 5.6-mile section also involves installation of culverts, riprap, stream channel relocations, and placement of fill in a wetland.  These activities in streams and wetlands require approval under Section 26a of the TVA Act.
The TVA FONSI is presented below, and the FHWA/TDOT EA is available upon request.
