Tennessee State Route 15 (US 64)

Hardin County, Tennessee

On February 10, 2014, TVA issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and a Section 26a permit for the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) proposed widening of a 6.079-mile section of State Route 15 (US 64).  The purpose of the proposed project is to provide a four-lane roadway from Firetower Road to Baptist Loop Road Hardin County.  This section comprises parts of a larger TDOT highway improvement project for a 23.36-mile corridor between Savannah in Hardin County and the western terminus of the Waynesboro Bypass in Wayne County.  TVA approval is necessary for the several proposed stream alterations stream alterations, which include encapsulations, relocations and stream loss, intake/outfall structures, spring boxes, riprap, bridge replacement, and wetland fill affecting Rocky Branch Wilson Branch, Boon Creek, Bigbee Branch, Smith Fork Creek, and their associated unnamed tributaries.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and TDOT jointly prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) dated August 3, 2000, and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), for the entire 23.36-mile improvement project. TVA was a cooperating agency in the preparation of the FHWA/TDOT EA and has subsequently issued FONSIs and Section 26a permits for actions associated with multiple segments of the project.
