Widows Creek Fossil Plant House Demolition

Jackson County, Alabama

On June 21, 2013, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) completed a final environmental assessment and issued a finding of no significant impact for the proposed house demolitions on recently purchased property adjacent to its Widows Creek Fossil Plant.  The properties were originally purchased for potential future storage of coal combustion residuals, as part of TVA’s initiative to convert to dry handling systems at all coal facilities. With the impending retirement of Widows Creek Fossil Plant Units 1 through 6, however, the purchased properties are no longer needed for coal combustion residual storage in the immediate future.  Therefore, to protect public health and safety, TVA proposes to remove the structures and implement other actions to manage the recently acquired land.
