Extreme Weather Conditions

WHAT

Employees who believe they cannot report to work safely when extreme weather conditions exist can request annual leave, advance annual leave, or leave without pay.

WHY

All TVA offices are open for business on all scheduled workdays.

HOW

During extreme weather conditions, employees who believe they cannot report to work safely should contact their supervisor from home to request leave. If employee is unable to reach their supervisor, they should request leave upon return to work for the entire time they missed work.

Authorization for Policy Modification

The following designated officers may modify this practice if in their judgment a TVA building or facility is unsafe for employees:

Knoxville and Norris, Tennessee, Area--Executive Vice President, Administration OfficeChattanooga, Tennessee, Area--Chief Nuclear Officer Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Area--Senior Scientist, Muscle Shoals Nashville, Tennessee, Area--Executive Vice President, Customer Services and Marketing Fossil and Hydro Plants--Plant Managers Nuclear Plants--Site Vice Presidents Land Between the Lakes--General Manager, Land Between the Lakes Field offices in Customer Services--Vice President for field office
Field offices outside the Tennessee Valley--Vice President for field office

How to Access Information

Should a designated officer declare a TVA building or facility to be unsafe for employees, information will be broadcast on the TVA voice mail system. The voice mail broadcasts may be accessed by dialing 423/751-6245 in Chattanooga, 865/632-8686 in Knoxville, 256/386-3123 in Muscle Shoals, and 615/882-2020 in Nashville. Also, the following radio and television stations will broadcast this information:

Employees at plant sites and field locations should follow notification procedures established for their locations. These local procedures should be available from supervisors and local business offices.

Request leave if they believe they cannot safely report to work.

TVA Officers

Determine if TVA buildings or facilities are unsafe for employees. Notify staffs when unsafe building or facility conditions exist.

Communications

Notify radio and television stations when designated officers determine unsafe building or facility conditions exist.

All Organizations

Submit time reports to Employee Accounting that reflect leave or dismissals when designated officers determine unsafe building or facility conditions exist.
Annual employees who are on prescheduled, approved leave when dismissals occur will be charged leave.

Employee Accounting

For annual employees, process payments that reflect leave or time charged to regular work accounts for dismissals due to unsafe buildings or facilities as determined by designated officer.

Human Resources and Facilities

Develop and recommend policy.
