Giving thanks…and giving back

While turkey dinners and football are what many people enjoy about the Thanksgiving holiday, some Knoxville-area TVA employees get an early start on their holiday giving by volunteering at the annual “Fantasy of Trees.”

Karen Clapp (left) and Sheryl Duley, both from Financial Services, were two of the many Knoxville-area TVA employees who volunteered their time during the Fantasy of Trees event to support East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

The event raises funds for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Volunteers devote more than 155,000 hours each year to make the event possible.

“My son is a leukemia survivor,” says Sheryl Duley, an analyst in Financial Services. “The hospital helped save my son’s life. I love volunteering and raising money to help more children.”

Duley works several hours over the weekend. When she’s not on volunteer duty, she brings her children to enjoy the fun.

Now in its 24th year, the Fantasy of Trees has raised more than $4.6 million to provide much-needed medical equipment for the children served by the hospital. If you’re interested in participating next year, contact Team TVA on InsideNet or call 865-632-8867.
