Across TVA

Telling TVA’s story in pictures

photoThe photographs of the Tennessee Valley from the first days of TVA to the present are pieces of history Pat Bernard Ezzell wants everyone to see.

That was her inspiration for compiling TVA Photography: Thirty Years of Life in the Tennessee Valley and TVA Photography, 1963-2008: Challenges and Changes in the Tennessee Valley.

“When I began working with the collection, I realized TVA had wonderful resources in these photographs,” says Ezzell, TVA’s historian and Native American liaison in the Office of Environment & Research. “TVA has made tremendous changes to the Tennessee Valley and has impacted the nation and the world.”

The books are available through local and online bookstores, as well as directly from the University of Mississippi Press at www.upress.state.ms.us. To locate the books, go to your favorite bookstore and ask for TVA photography books or search online.

Kim Alexander, director of sales at the Hyatt Place Hendersonville, and Ronnie Carter, Gallatin Fossil Plant custodian, show a few of the items donated to Undie 500, an annual campaign benefiting Operation Stand Down’s mission to support homeless veterans. Gallatin employees donated 1,454 pairs of new underwear, t-shirts and socks to Undie 500. The plant also donated $270 for a female veteran’s shopping trip.
