TVA scholarship applications available

Applications for TVA Employee Dependent Scholarships are now available on InsideNet. Completed applications are due by Jan. 12.

Applicants must be a graduating high-school senior with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Applicants also must be the dependent child of a TVA employee who has at least one year of employment service and is not a vice president or above. Up to 16 scholarships will be awarded.

Scholarships must be applied to an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States. Children of TVA retirees are not eligible to participate.

Selection of scholarship recipients is based on a student’s declared college major being consistent with TVA’s workforce-development needs, high-school grade-point average, ACT/SAT test scores, participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience and a statement of goals.

More information, along with a downloadable application, is available on the scholarship-application site on InsideNet. Those who cannot readily access InsideNet can call the TVA Service Center at
1-888-275-8094, 751-8800, 632-8800 or e-mail esc@tva.gov.

Timing is everything

Once again, TVA is partnering with the local state governments and emergency-management agencies to provide emergency-information calendars to residents who live near Browns Ferry, Sequoyah and Watts Bar nuclear plants.

In addition to the photographs of scenes around the Tennessee Valley, the calendars contain important and current information about each nuclear plant and the emergency plans that have been designed to protect the public’s health and safety.

TVA is distributing the 2009 calendars to those who live within the designated emergency-planning zones of each plant.

Memorial fund established for Darrick Wright

A memorial trust fund to benefit the newborn son of Darrick and Katina Wright has been established through the TVA Veterans Association and with the full support of Customer Resources.

Darrick Wright was the Customer Resources employee who died Sept. 17 while serving in Iraq. He was serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the U.S. Army Reserve as a captain in the Engineer Brigade and was only 37 years old when he died. Trevor, their only child, was born the evening of Nov. 11.
