Prizes and trophies for fish and casting contests were presented.

Supporting kids’ learning

At the Caribbean Affair fundraiser Aug. 9, Chattanooga Weekend Academy President Jerilyn Sanders, right, presents the grand prize – a BMW for the weekend to the Snowbird Mountain Lodge Bed & Breakfast in Robbinsville, N.C., to Angel Ulmer, wife of TVA retiree David Ulmer. Weekend Academy graduates Deddric Ellis, Holly Maddox, Trevere Scott-Henry and Taurean Scott-Henry were among the 140 attendees at the event. The statewide nonprofit organization provides educational enrichment to inner-city students through learning experiences on Saturdays throughout the school year. Proceeds from the event will support educational programs to students who most need them and whose families can least afford them. In addition to the Chattanooga chapter, Weekend Academy has sites in Knoxville and Memphis.
