TVA Schedules Shoreline Protection Workshop in Guntersville Area

May 10, 2002

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – TVA will sponsor a workshop on Saturday, May 18, to inform waterfront property owners around the Guntersville Reservoir about ways to improve and protect the shoreline adjacent to their land.

The workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the main office at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro.

The workshop will demonstrate how to protect shorelines by establishing buffer zones using native plants. TVA staff will explain how to establish a buffer, and will introduce the Buffer of the Month program on Guntersville Reservoir.

“Using proper plants and landscaping can help homeowners protect their investment,” says TVA Resource Stewardship Vice President Bridgette Ellis. “TVA encourages natural shoreline improvements wherever possible to help stop erosion, protect aquatic habitat, improve water quality, and enhance the appearance of the waterfront.”

The two-hour workshop is sponsored by TVA’s Guntersville Watershed Team. To register, call TVA at the Guntersville Watershed Team office, 256-386-3442.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power producer, and its power system is self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
