New Site Selection Tool, TVASites.com, to Help Attract Jobs to the Valley

May 17, 2004

To help attract and retain better paying jobs and increase capital investment in the Tennessee Valley, TVA has launched a new Web-based system to help business and site selectors identify the best company sites available in the region.

TVASites.com, a Geographic Information System Web site, is an interactive and customizable site that allows users to search for and find available industrial properties, office buildings and land throughout more than 80,000 square miles of TVA’s seven-state region. Site selectors can retrieve business planning, economic, geographic and site-specific demographic and labor force data, as well as create and print maps with a web-based mapping tool.

“Business success is often influenced by making decisions based on complete and accurate information,” said TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley. “TVASites.com puts needed information at the fingertips of decision-makers to help identify optimal company locations in the Tennessee Valley.”

The Web site, created by GIS Planning Incorporated, is said to be the world’s largest Internet-based GIS economic development site selection analysis program, according to the company. To access the Web site, visit www.tvasites.com. The site is also accessible through the TVA Economic Development Web site at www.tvaed.com.

In fiscal year 2003, TVA worked in partnership with various economic development organizations and partners to help attract or retain 47,000 jobs and leverage $1.58 billion in capital investment. TVA also provided more than $20.6 million in economic development loans.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
