TVA has donated $5,000 to the Pellissippi State Foundation to help strengthen the quality of technical education at the college. The foundation is the fundraising arm of Pellissippi State Technical Community College.
Pellissippi State plans to use the donation to support a preparation class for students taking the Edison Electric Institute exam. Successful completion of the exam is required for admittance to TVA’s Operation and Maintenance training programs.
“Pellissippi State’s mission is to serve the needs of the community,” said Pellissippi State President Allen Edwards. “With this donation, we will be better able to help TVA and others to meet their workforce demands. We are thankful to TVA for providing this opportunity.”
“TVA is pleased to support the local community and strengthen our partnership with Pellissippi State," said TVA Senior Manager of Staffing and Recruiting Mary Bach. "The preparation class will help students adequately prepare for future career opportunities at TVA and industries in the region.”
TVA recruits from colleges across the Tennessee Valley, including Pellissippi State, for its technical, craft and apprentice programs.
TVA’s Corporate Contributions supports public education programs that emphasize learning activities associated with energy and environmental education as well as vocational and technical education in skill areas that are vital to TVA’s workforce. TVA supports institutions that educate and train individuals with skills that TVA and industries locating in the region will need in the future.
TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
