TVA Plans Prescribed Burn At Muscle Shoals Reservoir
April 8, 2013
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority plans a prescribed burn today, April 8, and Tuesday, April 9, if needed, on public lands managed by TVA on the Muscle Shoals Dam Reservation along Pickwick Reservoir in Colbert County, Ala., in coordination with Alabama Forestry Commission and state and local officials and adjacent landowners.
Prescribed burning is a recognized natural resource management tool to help maintain and establish wildlife habitat, and reduce thatch and leaves that help fuel wildfires.
Weather permitting, the burn will be conducted as planned over the two-day period. A total of about 30 to 35 acres will be burned, one small block at a time to minimize smoke.
