TVA Holds Briefing, News Conference, Tour At Watts Bar Nuclear Plant

A briefing, news conference and tour of TVA’s Watts Bar Nuclear Plant near Spring City, Tenn., on progress of ongoing construction of Watts Bar Unit 2. Media tour will feature the reactor building, turbine and generator floor, and control room.

Thursday, April 5, 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. EDT.  Media should arrive at the plant entrance gate by 9:30 a.m. EDT and present valid news media credentials and a government-issued picture ID (driver’s license, etc). Media will be checked in and directed to a designated parking area.

Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, near Spring City, Tenn.
I-75 Exit 60 (Sweetwater) onto Highway 68. Travel 17 miles west, cross Watts Bar Dam and turn onto Nuclear Plant Road (about 1 mile past dam) 

Additional Information

Media representatives planning to attend must pre-register. The plant tour is limited to 30 media representatives selected on a first-come, first-serve basis. Because the tour involves the plant’s secure areas, a longer, more detailed form must be completed.

To pre-register for the event or the tour click here. The deadline for registration is 5 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, March 28. 

Each person from your news organization must be pre-registered. This includes reporters, producers, photographers and satellite truck engineers.

Media tour participants must wear hard-top/hard-sole shoes, long pants (either jeans or other non-polyester material) and short or long-sleeved shirts (no tank tops). Media participants will be issued a hardhat, safety glasses, earplugs and other protective gear

Cell phones, purses, briefcases, cameras and video equipment – except for photographers and videographers – must be left outside the plant’s protected zone.

Attention photographers and videographers - Wireless microphones are not allowed inside the plant’s protected zone. You must use wired microphones.

All recorded photos and video footage are subject to review by TVA Security and could require deletion if security is compromised.
 
Parking will be available for satellite trucks.

TVA plans to provide the briefing and news conference live on satellite and streamed on the Internet.
