Chattanooga CFC Campaign Kicks Off September 14

September 12, 2005

TVA and other federal agencies in the Chattanooga area will kick off the 2005 Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign Wednesday, Sept. 14, with a goal of raising more than $1.2 million for local and national charitable agencies.

The CFC kickoff will begin with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Convention and Trade Center. TVA President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Kilgore is the keynote speaker.

“This year’s campaign theme, ‘Your gift could mean a changed life,’ plainly says what the CFC can mean for people with significant needs,” said TVA General Manager of Resource Planning and Forecasting Tim Ponseti, the 2005 CFC chairman. “Thanks to the generous spirit of federal employees every year, lives are dramatically changed for the better, and our community becomes a better place.”

More than 300 officials and campaign workers representing area federal agencies and the military are expected to attend the kickoff breakfast. Entertainment will include the TVA Chattanooga Singers.

Kickoff activities will continue with a fair from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on 12th Street between Broad and Chestnut streets, where agencies that benefit from CFC contributions will have exhibits and booths. The fair is open to all federal workers to help them choose what charitable, health and human services organizations in 20 counties covering Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama to receive their contributions.

On Sept. 10 and Sept. 16, more than 300 federal employees will provide hands-on assistance to 30 local agencies that receive CFC contributions during the annual CFC Days of Caring.

Federal employees in the Chattanooga area have raised more than $22 million for local and national charitable agencies since 1987 and have been recognized for having the highest average gift per person for campaigns raising $1 million to $2 million worldwide.

Funds raised through 365 CFCs conducted nationwide support more than 1,900 local, national and international charitable agencies. Detailed information on the CFC and the 2005 campaign can be found at http://www.chattanoogacfc.org.
