September 12, 2005
Knoxville-area TVA employees will kick off the 2005 Smoky Mountain Region Combined Federal Campaign Wednesday, Sept. 14, with a goal of raising $470,000 from employee contributions.
The CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human service organizations.
The kickoff, featuring entertainment by TVA employees, will begin at
1 p.m. on the plaza between the TVA towers in downtown Knoxville. TVA Chairman Bill Baxter; TVA Executive Vice President of Administration LeAnne Stribley, Smoky Mountain Region executive campaign manager; TVA Senior Vice President of Employee Relations and Diversity Peyton Hairston, chairman of TVA’s Smoky Mountain Region CFC; and TVA police officer Thomas McDaniel, recipient of the CFC Hero Award in 2004, will speak.
“Our 2005 campaign theme is ‘Every One of Us,’ and we know that every one of us has the opportunity to make a difference,” said Hairston. “The generous spirit of TVA and federal employees helps change the lives of those in need throughout our community for the better.”
A kick-off breakfast involving other federal agencies that participate in Smoky Mountain Region CFC will be held at the Knoxville Hilton at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 14. Baxter is the guest speaker.
TVA’s 2005 campaign will continue through Nov. 4. Last year, TVA employees raised more than $466,000 for charitable and service organizations, increasing total gifts since 1995 to more than $4 million.
TVA’s campaign co-chairs are Kelley Barnes-Murray, project manager in TVA’s facilities management organization, and Nina Turney, management assistant in human resources.
The Smoky Mountain region includes federal employees in 22 counties in East Tennessee, two counties in North Carolina, one county in Kentucky and one county in Virginia.
TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
