TVA To Lower Level of Pine Reservoir for Shoreline Improvements

September 2, 2005

LEXINGTON, Tenn. – TVA will lower water levels at Pine Reservoir this fall approximately two feet below the normal level to permit shoreline improvements.

Pine Reservoir is in the Beech River watershed in west Tennessee. It is part of a cluster of eight reservoirs that provide flood control, recreational opportunities and water supply in the Beech River watershed.

The drawdown, requested by the Beech River Watershed Development Authority, will begin Wednesday, Sept. 7, and continue until the water reaches an elevation of 463 feet above sea level on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Shoreline improvements by Pine Reservoir residents are scheduled to be completed by mid to late October, and the reservoir is expected to return to normal winter levels by December.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
