TVA To Hold Open House on Proposed Transmission ImprovementsJuly 6, 2005 EAGLEVILLE, Tenn. – TVA will hold an open house on Monday, July 11, to seek public input on environmental issues related to a series of proposed improvements that are needed to upgrade the transmission system in Middle Tennessee. TVA is considering transmission improvements that could include building a new 500-kilovolt substation, building new 500-kV and 161-kV transmission lines, and other substation and transmission line upgrades. New substation facilities could be located in Davidson, Rutherford or Williamson counties with new or upgraded transmission facilities also located in these and other counties in Middle Tennessee. The open house is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. at Eagleville High School, 500 Hwy 99, TVA is asking for comments from the public regarding environmental issues that should be considered in the preparation of an environmental impact statement on the proposed transmission system improvements. TVA will identify alternatives and environmental issues, analyze the environmental consequences of each alternative and prepare a draft environmental impact statement to be completed by the fall of 2006. TVA will make the draft EIS available to the public and will again ask for written comments. Additional public meetings would be held. If alternatives selected for further review include a proposal to acquire right of way for a new transmission line or substations, TVA would hold one or more open houses in late 2005 or early 2006 to obtain comments on specific alternative sites for the transmission facilities. TVA representatives will be available at the July 11 open house to receive comments, answer questions and discuss any aspect of the proposed project, including the National Environmental Policy Act process. Displays, maps and printed information will be available at the meeting. Information is also available here. Comments on the scope and environmental issues for the EIS may be submitted at the public meeting in writing or verbally through a court reporter.
