Sequoyah Employees Raise $24,000 For Local Schools
August 17, 2005
SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. – Sequoyah Nuclear Plant employees raised $24,000 for four local schools during the Seventh Annual Partners in Education Golf Tournament.
Money from the tournament, which was held earlier this month at Windstone Golf Course, will be used during the 2005–06 school term to support a variety of academic programs and needs at the four area schools. Forty-five teams with three or four golfers per team participated in the tournament.
“I want to personally thank all the participants and volunteers who supported this tournament,” said Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Vice President Randy Douet. “Their time and energy helped make this tournament successful, which will help our neighboring schools during the coming year. This is a great way to help students in our community pursue their educational goals and demonstrate to our sponsors how their contributions are put to excellent use.”
Several gold-hole sponsors played a key factor in the overall success of the tournament. AREVA/Framatome, Sargent Lundy, Shaw/Stone & Webster, Siemens and Westinghouse contributed more than $2,500. In appreciation of the support by the gold-hole sponsors, Sequoyah will award $500 college scholarships on their behalf to two graduating students, one from Soddy-Daisy High School and one from Sequoyah High School.
Sequoyah’s Partners in Education program supports Loftis and Soddy-Daisy middle schools and Sequoyah and Soddy-Daisy high schools. The program assists schools in providing a quality education to ensure that the future workforce has the knowledge and skills necessary to meet challenges of the future. The program involves more than 80 schools throughout the Tennessee Valley.
