TVA Board To Meet in Rock Spring, Ga.

September 22, 2006

ROCK SPRING, Ga. – The expanded Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors will hold a public business meeting in Rock Spring, Ga., on Sept. 29 -- its first meeting in the state of Georgia under the new Board governance structure.

The meeting at the Walker County Convention Center is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Representatives of U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss of Georgia are expected to attend the Board meeting.

Currently, the TVA Board has eight members who serve part-time under a new governance structure that became effective March 31. A ninth member is awaiting confirmation by the U.S. Senate. TVA Board members are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

“I am pleased that the new Board has been responsive to north Georgia and recognizes that it is a key part of the TVA service area, accounting for some 120,000 households and almost $180 million of TVA’s annual power revenue,” said Isakson. “TVA’s reliable power supply and other services are important to the businesses and residents of north Georgia, and I will continue my efforts to see that Georgia and all states within the TVA service area have a representative on the Board.”

TVA provides power to five local power companies serving 10 counties in north Georgia. The local companies distribute TVA power to homes and businesses over a 3,300 square mile area.

Since the change in governance, the TVA Board has met at TVA headquarters in Knoxville, Tenn., and in Hopkinsville, Ky. The Board holds public meetings at locations throughout the Tennessee Valley to allow interested stakeholders and customers to attend a TVA business meeting.

The agenda for the Rock Spring meeting includes several business action items as well as reports from Board committees. The TVA Board has never met in Walker County and has not met in Georgia since 2003, when a Board meeting was held in Chickamauga.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
