Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign Announces 2006 Chair
August 11, 2006
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Marcia Cooper, TVA’s senior vice president of fossil engineering and technical services, will chair the 2006 Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign, held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human service organizations.
This year’s CFC kickoff is Sept. 13, and federal agencies will complete their campaigns in November. As chair, Cooper will oversee the 20-county Greater Chattanooga CFC spanning across East Tennessee and parts of Alabama and Georgia.
“Federal employees are very generous givers, of both their time and money, and they care deeply about the communities in which they live and work,” said Cooper. “They know that their gift to CFC is a contribution that can benefit others for years to come, and that is reflected in this year’s theme, “I make a difference.”
Cooper will be assisted with the campaign by other federal agencies in the Chattanooga area. Federal employees who will work with Cooper include Gail Satterfield, campaign manager, TVA; Mary Ellen Murphy, U. S. Postal Service; and Steve Saunders, chair of the Greater Chattanooga CFC Board, TVA.
Cooper is a native Tennessean and has lived in Chattanooga for 25 years. She has a mechanical engineering degree from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and an MBA from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Cooper has worked in the electric utility industry for more than 20 years in TVA’s nuclear and fossil power divisions.
The 2005 Chattanooga Area CFC raised more than $1.5 million for local and national charitable agencies—earning recognition as having one of the highest percentage dollar increases for campaigns raising more than $1 million.
Chattanooga area federal employees also have been honored several times in recent years for having the highest average gift per person for campaigns raising $1 million to $2 million worldwide.
Between 1987 and 2005, Chattanooga-area CFC gifts have totaled more than $24 million. Funds raised through 365 campaigns conducted nationwide support more than 1,900 local, national and international charitable agencies.
TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed with revenues of $7.8 billion in 2005. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
