Chattanooga Combined Federal Campaign Kicks Off This WeekSeptmeber 12, 2006 TVA and other federal agencies in the Chattanooga area will kick off the 2006 Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign Wednesday, Sept. 13, with a goal of raising more than $1.2 million for local and national charitable agencies. The CFC kickoff will begin with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Convention and Trade Center. Zan Guerry, chairman and chief executive officer of Chattem Inc. and chairman of United Way of Chattanooga, is the keynote speaker. Entertainment will include the Orange Grove Singers. “This year’s campaign theme, ‘I Make a Difference,’ is really what the campaign is all about,” said Marci Cooper, TVA senior vice president of Fossil Engineering and Technical Services and chair of the 2006 campaign. ”Anyone can make a difference in the lives of those in need.” About 250 officials and campaign workers representing area federal agencies and the military are expected to attend the kickoff breakfast. Kickoff activities will continue with a fair from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, on Broad Street between 11th and 12th streets, where agencies that benefit from CFC contributions will have exhibits and booths. The fair is open to all federal workers to help them choose what charitable, health and human services organizations in 20 counties covering Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama to receive their contributions. On Sept. 8-9, more than 400 federal employees provided hands-on assistance to 36 local agencies that receive CFC contributions during the annual CFC Days of Caring. Federal employees in the Chattanooga area have raised more than $24 million for local and national charitable agencies since 1987 and have been recognized for having the highest average gift per person for campaigns raising $1 million to $2 million worldwide. Funds raised through 365 CFCs conducted nationwide support more than 1,900 local, national and international charitable agencies.
