Chattanooga CFC Campaign Kicks Off September 9September 8, 2003 TVA and other federal agencies in the Chattanooga area will kick off the 2003 Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign on Tuesday, September 9, with a goal of raising more than $1.5 million for local and national charitable agencies. The CFC kickoff will begin with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in Exhibit Hall C of the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Convention and Trade Center. In conjunction with this year’s CFC theme, “Caring for Communities,” Pete Van Dusen, a Cleveland firefighter and emergency medical technician, is the keynote speaker. Dusen will talk about the support and care community agencies provided him and his family during his stepson’s battle with brain cancer. Approximately 300 officials and campaign workers representing more than 90 area federal agencies are expected to attend the kickoff event. The musical group Fire, which is made up of Chattanooga firefighters, will provide entertainment. The CFC kickoff will continue with a fair from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Exhibit Hall B of the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Convention and Trade Center, where agencies that benefit from CFC contributions will have exhibits and booths. The fair is open to all federal workers and retirees to help them choose which charitable, health and human services organizations they would like to contribute to in 20 counties covering Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. Federal workers also learned about the various agencies during the annual CFC Day of Caring on Aug. 29, when more than 300 employees provided hands-on assistance to 33 local agencies that receive contributions from the CFC. Some employees, including those from the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Postal Service, were first-time participants in the event. The 2002 Chattanooga Area CFC raised more than $1.5 million for local and national charitable agencies—its highest amount ever, increasing total gifts since 1987 to more than $19.5 million. Chattanooga area federal employees have been honored several times for having the highest average gift per person for campaigns raising $1 million to $2 million worldwide. Funds raised through 365 CFC campaigns conducted nationwide support more than 1,600 local, national, and international charitable agencies.
