TVA Combined Federal Campaign Kicks Off September 18

September 16, 2003

Knoxville-area TVA employees will kick off the 2003 Smoky Mountain Region Combined Federal Campaign Thursday, Sept. 18, with a goal of raising $450,000 from employee contributions.

The CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health, and human service organizations.

TVA Director Skila Harris and LeAnne Stribley, TVA’s executive vice president of administration and chair of TVA’s Smoky Mountain Region CFC, will kick off the campaign at 1 p.m. at an ice cream social for employees on the plaza between the TVA towers. Terry Morris, from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, will be the keynote speaker. Morris benefited from CFC contributions 20 years ago.

“The Smoky Mountain Region CFC received a national award last year for per-person contributions, which is a tribute to the generosity of our employees,” said Stribley. “As chair of TVA’s Smoky Mountain Region CFC, I look forward to working with TVA employees and other federal agencies to continue the success we’ve had in previous years.”

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a CFC fair, featuring information booths on United Way agencies that benefit from CFC contributions, will be held for TVA and other federal employees on the TVA plaza and at the Howard Baker Courthouse.

TVA’s 2003 campaign will continue through October 30. Last year, TVA employees raised $535,196 for charitable and service organizations — its highest amount ever, increasing total gifts since 1995 to more than $4 million.

TVA’s CFC co-chairs this year are Carolyn Bradley, acting vice president of internal communications; Gloria Bright, executive management assistant; Elizabeth Moore, financial analyst; and Rose Sexton, manager of TVA Police business services. Postmaster General Robert McClendon serves as Smoky Mountain executive campaign chair.

The Smoky Mountain region includes federal employees in 22 counties in East Tennessee, two counties in North Carolina, one county in Kentucky and one county in Virginia.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power producer and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
