Greater Chattanooga Area CFC Raises More Than $1.5 Million

For the second consecutive year, TVA and other federal agencies in the Chattanooga area have pledged more than $1.5 million for the Combined Federal Campaign for local and national charitable agencies.
Federal employee contributions to the 2003 CFC campaign total $1,513,949, with additional pledges still expected from some organizations.

TVA leads the 2003 CFC with pledges totaling $1,221,506, about 80 percent of the campaign total. Of that amount TVA employees pledged more than $1.2 million, with retirees and contractors contributing approximately $5,000 and $4,000, respectively. Special events held to benefit the CFC raised more than $34,000.

Area organizations that had a 10 percent campaign increase or more this year include the Chattanooga National Cemetery, Department of Labor (Apprenticeship and Training), Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Social Security Administration (Chattanooga), Tennessee Army National Guard, U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. District Court/Clerk’s Office, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The U.S. Postal Service also had a 10 percent increase, with several post offices in Alabama participating in the CFC for the first time. The Homeland Security/Transportation Security Administration and Little River Canyon were first-time CFC participants this year.

“I congratulate Chattanooga-area federal employees on this year’s successful campaign and thank them for their generosity in ‘Caring for Communities,’ which was this year’s theme,” said TVA Senior Vice President of Outage Planning and Execution Ron Loving, chairman of this year’s Greater Chattanooga Area CFC. “TVA employees played a key role in the campaign achieving its goal. An increase in giving by other groups and the participation by two agencies not involved in the past also were important factors in helping us meet our goal and make a very generous contribution.”

Other federal employees in the Chattanooga area who assisted Loving with the campaign include George Cupp, Internal Revenue Service-Chattanooga; Charlene Patty, U.S. Postal Service; Victor Condroski, U.S. Postal Service; and Tanya Adams, TVA. Also working on the Chattanooga area CFC were Delores Lewis of United Way, who was director of the principal combined fund organization; Dennis McCloud of TVA, chairman of the Local Federal Coordinating Committee; and Sharon Moore of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service, vice chairman of the LFCC.

The CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health, and human-services organizations.

Between 1987 and 2002, Chattanooga-area CFC gifts totaled more than $19.5 million. Funds raised through the 400 nationwide CFC efforts support more than 1,500 local, national and international charitable agencies. The Greater Chattanooga Area CFC covers 20 counties in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider, and its power system is self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
