Riverwalk Marina Receives Clean Marina AwardNov. 12, 2003DECATUR, Ala. — Riverwalk Marina on Wheeler Reservoir will fly the Clean Marina flag in recognition of its achievements in making Wheeler Reservoir a cleaner place. A certificate and flag will be presented to Steve Conner, managing partner of Riverwalk Marina. It is the second marina on Wheeler Reservoir to receive the Clean Marina certification. To receive this designation, marinas must meet all federal, state, and local regulations related to marina management. “Riverwalk Marina is implementing a number of recommended practices to minimize pollution and encourage boaters to become effective stewards of the water resources,” said Regina McCoy, TVA’s Clean Marina coordinator for Wheeler. Riverwalk Marina voluntarily sought innovative measures to handle boat sewage. The marina was designated a no-discharge marina, which prohibits the release of untreated or improperly treated sewage within the harbor limits. For more information on the Clean Marina program, contact Regina McCoy at 256-386-3550. Also see the clean boating page on this site.
