TVA To Maintain Low Levels of Bear Creek Reservoir Through December

November 18, 2004

RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. – Water levels at Bear Creek Reservoir will remain below the normal winter level through December.

The reservoir will be held at an elevation of 550 feet above sea level until early December to allow the Franklin County Water Service to complete construction of a water intake structure for a new water treatment plant and raw water pumping station.

When construction is completed, TVA will allow the water level to rise to elevation 559. The reservoir will be held at this elevation until the end of December to allow TVA to complete maintenance work on the dam and intake structure.

The drawdown of Bear Creek began in September. The reservoir is expected to return to normal winter levels in January 2005. TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely selffinanced.

TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood control, navigation, water quality, water supply and recreation.
