TVA To Hold Second Open House on Proposed Power Line In Greeneville

October 20, 2005

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – TVA will hold an open house Thursday, Oct. 27, to hear public comments on the location of a proposed new power line that will serve Greeneville Light & Power System’s proposed new substation.

The transmission line would extend approximately 4.5 miles from TVA’s John Sevier-Tusculum 161-kilovolt line, located east of Greeneville, to GLPS’s proposed new substation on Rockwell Drive near Industrial Road. TVA needs the transmission line to continue providing reliable service in the area while meeting the growing power demand.

TVA will present a series of alternative routes for the 161-kilovolt line at the open house, to be held from 3 - 7 p.m. at the Greeneville Light & Power System office, 110 North College St.

Alternative routes that were presented by TVA at an April 7 open house have been revised based on public input. In addition, more routes are being presented because of a change in the location of the substation.

Detailed maps and photographs showing the alternative routes for the proposed power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the alternatives. A map is available here .

For additional information or to submit comments, write W. Allen Miller, TVA, 1101 Market St. (MR 4G), Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801, call toll free at 800-362-4355, send an e-mail to newtransline@tva.com, or go to the following TVA website.

The deadline for comments is Nov. 28. TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
