TVA Offices Closed on Tuesday

December 29, 2006

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – TVA will join other federal government offices and remain closed on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, as a mark of respect for Gerald R. Ford, the thirty-eighth President of the United States.

All TVA employees whose services can be spared will be excused from work on January 2 in support of President Bush’s December 28 Executive Order. Ceremonies for the former President will conclude on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. before his body is transported to Michigan for burial.

TVA employees observe New Years Day as a holiday on Monday, January 1. Employees will return to normal work schedule on Wednesday, January 3, 2007.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
