Smoky Mountain Combined Federal Campaign Kicks Off Oct. 5

October 3, 2007

The 2007 Smoky Mountain Region Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) will kickoff Friday, Oct. 5, at TVA’s Knoxville Office Complex. The Smoky Mountain CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human services organizations.

The goal for all federal agencies participating in the 2007 Smoky Mountain campaign is $700,000, while TVA’s goal is $480,000. The campaign runs through Nov. 30.

Kickoff speakers include TVA Vice President of Facilities Management Terrell Burkhart, who is executive chairman for the Smoky Mountain Region campaign, and TVA CEO Tom Kilgore, who serves as 2007 TVA Leadership Circle chairman. WBIR’s “Live at 5” co-hosts, Beth Haynes and Russell Biven, also will speak.

“This year’s theme, ‘Giving Together,’ is what the combined federal campaign is all about,” Burkhart said. “Federal employees in the Smoky Mountain Region have a long tradition of generous support for the CFC. Whether it’s involvement in campaign events, taking part in a Day of Caring or committing to an individual pledge, when our employees give together, it makes the difference for others in need.”

In addition to the Oct. 5 kickoff event, numerous campaign activities are planned this year including a golf tournament, an online auction, pizza pledge days, a peanut butter and tuna fish drive, Day of Caring and a Book Fair.

Last year, the Smoky Mountain Region CFC exceeded its $700,000 goal, raising an additional $80,000 for local and national charitable organizations. Since 2001, the Smoky Mountain Region CFC has collected donations of more than $4.5 million.

Federal employees who will assist Burkhart and Suzan Bowman, who is the local federal coordinating campaign chair, include Janet Herrin, TVA executive campaign manager; Katie Bell and Karen Ford of TVA, campaign co-chairs; Tammy Wilson and Erven Williams, TVA loaned executives; and LaWan Davis and Norimi Bradner, U.S. Postal Service loaned executives.

The Smoky Mountain Region CFC serves 26 counties in East Tennessee, two in North Carolina and one each in Kentucky and Virginia. In addition to TVA, other participating area federal agencies include the U.S. Postal Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service and the Office of Surface Mining. CFC funds raised through 365 federal campaigns conducted nationwide support more than 1,900 local, national and international charitable agencies.
