TVA Asks for Comments on Proposed Transmission Project
October 5, 2007
GLASGOW, Ky. – To maintain reliable electric service and meet growing power demand, TVA plans to upgrade its transmission system in the Glasgow area and is seeking public input on planned improvements, beginning with an open house on Thursday, Oct. 11.
Improvements include construction of a new 161-kilovolt transmission line, which is about six miles long. TVA will use existing right-of-way on four miles of the new line, which will replace an existing 69-kilovolt line. TVA will need to acquire two miles of new right-of-way for the line.
The new line is needed to power Glasgow Electric Plant Board’s new East Glasgow Substation, located northwest of the intersection of Highway 63 and Louie B. Nunn Parkway. It will originate at TVA’s Summer Shade-East Bowling Green transmission line, about six miles south of the substation site.
TVA staff will discuss alternative routes at the open house from 3 -7 p.m. CDT at Western Kentucky University, Glasgow Regional Center, Room 131, 500 Hilltopper Way. in Glasgow.
Detailed maps will be available showing the network of alternative routes for the two-mile section of new right-of-way. Maps of the four miles of existing right-of-way also will be available.
TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals for both the new and existing sections of the line. A map is available at www.tva.gov/power/projects.
