Statement Regarding Order from the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation
June 14, 2010
TVA has received Commissioner James Fyke’s order and will comply with it, as we remain fully committed to a complete cleanup of the Kingston ash spill.
We appreciate the comprehensive oversight that the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has provided, and we will continue to seek the department’s review and guidance to restore the area and protect public health.
The recovery work has progressed around-the-the-clock for more than 17 months since the event occurred, and the progress is on schedule. The time-critical phase of removing the ash from the river is complete, as scheduled. Nearly three-fifths of the spilled ash has been recovered, and it is being shipped to an approved disposal site under work plans reviewed by state and federal officials.
We are committed to make things right for the people of Roane County and that will remain our priority until the job is done.
