Watts Bar Nuclear Plant

Mike Lorek was named Plant Manager of TVA’s Watts Bar Nuclear Plant in December 2006. He has primary responsibility for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant.

From 2005 to 2006, Lorek served as Plant Manager of Nuclear Management Company’s Point Beach Nuclear Plant, a two-unit pressurized-water reactor plant in Wisconsin.

Prior to that Lorek spent 25 years with TVA Nuclear. He started as a Reactor Engineer at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant in 1980 and later transferred to the site’s training organization. He became Training Manager in 1988 and then served for three years as Operations Superintendent. He transferred to Nuclear Engineering and served as Systems Engineering Manager and Site Engineering Manager before being named Assistant Plant Manager for Sequoyah. In 2003, he was promoted to Corporate Engineering Manager, a position he held until joining Nuclear Management Company.

Lorek earned a B.S. degree in nuclear engineering from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in the same field from the University of Tennessee.
