Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
Not every type of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is suitable for every building. Requirements for features such as humidity and ventilation control, equipment appearance, and indoor air quality vary from building to building.
TVA and local public power companies work with school systems and commercial establishments of all sizes to conduct feasibility studies that compare the operating costs and applicability of different HVAC systems.
Through these studies we can:
- Calculate heating and cooling load for commercial and industrial buildings
- Recommend alternative heating and cooling methods, including suggestions for equipment sizing and duct-system design
- Recommend ventilation-system design
- Investigate problems in existing systems and recommend corrective actions.
- Advise on the most energy-efficient technology available, the geothermal heat pump.
An HVAC evaluation should include a life-cycle cost analysis, which takes into account the initial cost of the system, annual maintenance and operating costs, and energy charges over the physical life of the equipment. Life-cycle cost analysis helps buyers choose systems that cost the least over time, not just at the time of purchase.
