Donald van der Vaart
Don van der Vaart is the Energy Policy Advisor for the N. C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources. In this position, he works with the Energy Policy Council, federal, state, regional and local agencies to coordinate energy policy, as well as to increase domestic energy exploration, development and production in North Carolina, while promoting economic growth and job creation.
Previously, van der Vaart was an engineering supervisor for the N. C. Division of Air Quality. He teaches environmental policy and law at N. C. State University, and has done scientific research at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and at the Research Triangle Institute.
Van der Vaart holds as B.S in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from N. C. State University, a law degree from N.C. Central University, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge (England).
