Comments sought on Mountain Reservoirs Land Management Plan

Picture of lake and mountainsTVA is seeking input from the public in identifying the most suitable and appropriate use for specific parcels of TVA-managed public land along nine mountain reservoirs: Apalachia, Blue Ridge, Chatuge, Fontana, Hiwassee, Nottely, Ocoee No. 1, Ocoee No. 2, and Ocoee No. 3.

Comments will be used in developing a land management plan to guide land-use decisions on about 6,200 acres of TVA-managed public land along these reservoirs.

Beginning June 1, reservoir users and other stakeholders can view maps of the mountain reservoirs and complete an online questionnaire. In addition, TVA will answer questions and accept comments at an open house at the Blairsville, Georgia campus of North Georgia Technical College on Thursday, June 21, from 4-8 p.m.

TVA staff also will be meeting with stakeholder groups to provide information and seek input during the public comment period. If your group would be interested in scheduling a meeting or if you would like to be added to the mailing list to receive information about the Mountain Reservoirs land planning process, call 1-800-TVA-LAND or send an e-mail to Mountain_Reservoirs@tva.gov.

Comment forms and maps also are available at the TVA Watershed Team Office located at 221 Old Ranger Road in Murphy, North Carolina.

The initial public comment period ends on June 30. More opportunities to provide comments will be available when the draft plan is issued late this year or early 2008. Updates on the planning process will be provided in River Neighbors and through TVA.com.
