TVA is accelerating the annual drawdown at Boone Lake so that engineers can conduct more detailed study and investigation of a sinkhole and a small amount of water seeping from the river bank below the dam. The winter drawdown, which will be complete by Nov. 10 is out of an abundance of caution, and public safety is our top priority. The dam is structurally sound, and we are continuously monitoring the dam to ensure it is safe.
Boone Reservoir is managed for a number of purposes, including power production, flood damage reduction, water supply, water quality, and aquatic ecology.
The reservoir features a swimming area above the dam and a boat ramp with a courtesy pier for safe, convenient boat launching and retrieval. Water skiing and fishing are popular pastimes at Boone.
