Delivering on Our Commitment to Supplier Diversity

Charita Barrow, contracts manager for TVA Supply Chain, meets with representatives from SBC Instrument & Controls Inc. at the 2018 Supplier Diversity Outreach Summit in Tupelo, MS.

TVA’s mission of service is best achieved when we welcome a diversity of thought, background and experience. That’s why we value diversity in our employees and everyone we work with—including suppliers.

“In seeking to do business with firms that offer exceptional products and services at competitive prices, TVA welcomes businesses of all types—small, minority-owned, woman-owned, veteran-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned and those located in historically underutilized business (HUB) zones among others,” says Jan Cable, manager of TVA Supplier Diversity and Development.

In FY2018, Supply Chain spend results again reflected TVA’s commitment to small, diverse and Valley businesses:

Spend Type

FY18

Total Supply Chain Managed Spend

$2.9 Billion

Total Small Business Spend

$822 Million

Total Diverse Business Spend

$445 Million

Total Valley Business Spend

$2.2 Billion

“There’s a growing commitment across our TVA business units to provide opportunities for small, diverse and Valley-based suppliers who can demonstrate their competitiveness when it comes to safety, quality, price and reliability,” says Cable.

In FY18, TVA set a new supplier diversity record, spending more than $445 million with diverse businesses—those owned by women, people of color, veterans and those located in historically underutilized business zones (Hubzones).
