TVA is considering a request for a Section 26a permit for commercial recreational facilities and establishment of approximately 6.4 acres of harbor limits for The Dam Boat Dock, previously called Harbor Cove Marina, on Hiwassee Reservoir in Cherokee County, North Carolina.  The operator proposes to expand by enlarging the sixty existing boatslips and adding an additional 30 boatslips, an office, a fuel dock, and a store. TVA is seeking public comment prior to deciding on permit issuance.

TVA is interested in receiving comments regarding the action’s potential to affect the environment or historic properties, and to identify any other issues associated with this request.  Any comments received, including names and addresses, will become part of the administrative record and will be available for public inspection.  All written comments on this proposed action must be received on or before January 10, 2020. Decisions

Review process

TVA is the steward of 293,000 acres of public land, which it manages by carefully balancing public needs and agency goals. Land use requests from the public or private sectors can be submitted to any of TVA’s regional watershed offices. Major requests, when they’re in accord with TVA’s integrated resource management mission, will be submitted to the TVA Board for approval. The watershed offices can handle minor requests.

TVA’s rulings are governed by the National Environmental Policy Act, which requires that decisions take into account the proposed actions’ environmental impact and their effect on cultural and historical properties and artifacts.

Go to Environmental Reviews for information on environmental impact statements and assessments, and other related documents.
