Progress Update: Highly Visible Upstream Berm Activities

NOVEMBER 7, 2017—Drivers on the roads near Boone Dam will see a steady stream of trucks loaded with rock driving to the project site (or heading away empty to reload). Nearly 36,000 tons of stone—sourced from local quarries—have been placed to fortify the upstream berm during the first part of construction. This additional rock will add stability to the earthen embankment.

Work also is underway on the downstream side of the dam to relocate some instruments in preparation for the new construction. The next phase of work will include widening the top of the dam, with construction of the cutoff wall to be completed in the final phase of the project.
