Geotechnical Core Drilling Begins at Chickamauga Dam

TVA will begin over-water core drilling at Chickamauga Dam to ensure the embankment is functioning as intended. The drilling does not harm the dam structure and the core holes are refilled and sealed.

Drilling will take place from a barge, and will continue for about two weeks as the barge moves around the dam to collect samples. This work is part of an ongoing “health check” of all 49 dams in the TVA system to ensure our dams meet stringent industry safety standards.

The drilling should not affect operations at the dam, parking areas or boat launches. The public can observe the equipment from the overlooks and parking areas.
