TVA Asks for Comments on Proposed Transmission Project in Olive Branch Mississippi

October 02, 2018

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking for public input about upgrades to its transmission system in the Olive Branch area that would provide for the growing electrical load and increase power reliability.

TVA is proposing to invest $6 million in this project to build 3.5 miles of new transmission line and to rebuild 1.7 miles of existing transmission line from the existing Freeport-Miller 161-kV transmission line-tap to West Pleasant Hill substation to Northcentral Electric Power Association’s Mineral Wells substation in Olive Branch. The new line would be built on steel pole structures on new 100-foot-wide right of way, and the rebuild portion would be on existing right of way adjacent to railroad right of way. Several alternate line routes are under consideration.

TVA is committed to working with area stakeholders during the course of the project and encourages public input. Members of the public are encouraged to attend an open house from 3-7 p.m. CDT on Thurs., Oct. 11, 2018, at the Northcentral Electric Power Association Auditorium, 4600 Northcentral Way, Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Detailed maps showing the different locations being considered for the proposed transmission line will be available. TVA staff will answer questions, discuss concerns and receive comments. More information is available at https://www.tva.com/transmissionprojects.

The public may also submit comments by contacting TVA’s Cherie Minghini at (800) 362-4355, by email at newtransline@tva.gov or by mail at: Cherie Minghini, Tennessee Valley Authority, 1101 Market St., MR 4G, Chattanooga, TN, 37402-2801. The deadline for comments is Nov. 13, 2018.

This is one of 14 transmission projects currently proposed or under construction for Mississippi. TVA is investing $2.2 billion Valley-wide in transmission system improvements over the next five years to continue our mission of providing low cost, reliable power.
