TVA Recognizes Companies for Commitment to Environment

Four companies recently received Carbon Reduction Awards from TVA for leading the way in lowering their carbon emissions rates in the Valley during calendar year 2017. The award focuses on companies who receive their power directly from TVA.

Nyrstar (Clarksville, Tennessee) and Praxair (Memphis, Tennessee) joined the Leadership Circle, along with two-time winner Resolute Forest Products (Grenada, Mississippi). CCMA of Calvert City, Kentucky, was named Most Improved for advancements in reducing emissions in 2017.

TVA first began providing direct serve customers with specific, as-delivered carbon emission rates in 2013 and, today offers two awards for environmental excellence in the Valley: 1) Leadership Circle – for the lowest emission rates in a year; and 2) Most Improved — for the direct serve customer who improved the most year-over-year on mass of reduction.

Gary Harris, TVA vice president of Industrial Marketing and Services, said: “Environmental stewardship is important to TVA and is part of our mission of serving the Valley. This award recognizes companies who have made exceptional efforts to reduce carbon emissions and who, like TVA, care for the environment and are taking meaningful steps to reduce their carbon emissions each year. We wanted to recognize those companies for their commitment to improving the environment.”

TVA announced the direct serve Carbon Reduction Awards winners in late 2018 and has presented the companies’ with the award at recent events. The 2018 winners will be announced later in calendar year 2019.
