TVA’s Jerome Terrell Honored with Legacy Award

The Tennessee Economic Development Council (TEDC) honors the storied career of Jerome Terrell, longtime senior program manager for TVA Economic Development, with major award.

OCTOBER 20, 2016—After a long and fulfilling career in business and economic development, TVA’s Jerome Terrell is going out on top. The Tennessee Economic Development Council (TEDC) recognized Terrell, longtime senior program manager for TVA Economic Development, as the recipient of its Legacy Award at the recent TEDC Annual Fall Conference.

Known as “J.T.” to many, Terrell’s dynamic experience, leadership and enthusiasm for economic development were highlighted in his selection as TEDC’s Legacy Award Winner.

“It has been a pleasure to be able to work in a profession that I have enjoyed very much for so many years,” Terrell says. “I am honored by this recognition from the Tennessee Economic Development Council.

Terrell retired from TVA earlier this month after 11 years with TVA Economic Development. Before joining TVA, Terrell had a rich and diverse professional career, owning and operating private businesses in the transportation industry and serving as director of Corporate Relations for a real estate company. As director of economic development for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and as regional manager for TVA Economic Development’s most active region for over a decade, Terrell has left an indelible mark on the profession.

“His approach to work and life has always been about what’s good for the whole rather than for himself,” says John Bradley, senior vice president of TVA Economic Development. “Seeking out the best talent and helping others flourish in his approach—you would be hard-pressed to find anyone else in Tennessee economic development with more wisdom, professionalism, character, or respect than Jerome Terrell.”

The Legacy Award recognizes those in the state economic development community who have had an extraordinary impact on the profession and the community in which they worked. The award is not given annually, but is instead offered as a special recognition for individuals who are highly respected, active in economic development and have been a TEDC member for at least 10 years. Recipients are nominated by the TEDC Board of Directors.

TEDC is a statewide professional organization for people involved in economic development. Recipients of the Legacy Award must be nominated by TEDC members and selected by a committee of past presidents of TEDC from the field of nominees.
